Myself and a few other folks have been thinking about innovative ways of marketing Praja. We want to create exciting content and bring new users on Praja. So how about we organize a Blogathon?

This event can be both on the ground as well as online. The basic idea is that we fix a theme/topics, a date and a venue. On the chosen date all of us get together and blog about the chosen theme. Obviously, we will open the event to anyone who is interested and will publicize it in a significant manner.

The best blog entries get an awesome prize-- think ipods, iphones etc. We will find sponsors who can cover the costs for the venue and prizes. Normally, such events are accompanied by free snacks and beer ;)

We can also have tie-ups with newspapers which will agree to print the best blog entries. If successful we can also try doing such events in other cities.

This idea is in its nascent stages and we wanted to present it to everyone for feedback and brainstorming.

So what do you guys think?

Lets organize one. Some thoughts on how this could work.

Contest:

  • We can float 4-5 issues of civic interest. Or leave it open saying it should be a post on any local civic issue.
  • Contest can be online (just submit) your post.
  • There could be a blogcamp day where those bloggers who want to verbally present there posts can do so. If there are lot many bloggers willing to speak up, then we can draw lots or vote on who all get speaking slots.
  • Bloggers can post here on Praja, or cross post from their personal blogs. either way, all posts willl be available in a simple list for voting. Like a +1 button next to the blog post.

Judging/Voting

  • Can have "celebrity" judges. Could be some eminent activists, local journalists, babus or netas. Say 5-6 people.
  • Judges' vote gets 30% weightage.
  • Rest 70% comes from pure online voting.

Award?

  • Depending on the sponsor support, we could look at some gadget or shopping voucher as awards.
  • Can have 2 awards. Winner and runners up ((as determined by 70-30 voting).  One critics choice (voted most by judges) and one janta/praja choice (most online votes).
