Call to Davangere People : Know, Care, Participate
poowonder - 28 May, 2009 | Development | Davangere | Action | Davangere | Everything else
Dear Friends,
Davangere has been one of the cities witnessing fast development geographically, commercially and known for its quality educational institutions.Being the centre place of Karnataka and witnessing important happenings, I feel that there is no much community participation in the developmental activities in the areas of knowledge, attitude and action.
Now its the time for us to care about our city and to do something for its overall development. This is the right time for us, citizens of Davangere to act. Major cities in Karnataka have all witnessed the progress in achievements. It could be noticed that citizens' active participation has made the services people-friendly and helped to serve them in the right way.
Now through Praja, a bridge between those who serve us and those amongst us who care and want to participate, LET US ACT. Let us know and care about the development activities that are taking place in our town and contribute for efficacy of them.
I am inviting the Internet driven community interested in Davangere to interact and make use of Praja for taking our hometown forward. Let us be active and concerned citizens and do whatever possible from our side for our beloved town and our people.
Let us join and expand our community.
Hoping to see more Davangerites on Praja,
Regards, Poornima.

I am from Mysoru Mathada Galli
Vasanthkumar Mysoremath - 28 May, 2009 - 10:35
Mysoru Mathada Galli is very near to Railway Station and there exists a Mysoru Matha even now with some of my relatives.
My great grandfather was an Aasthan Vidwaan serving in Mummadi Krishna Devarayara Samsthana.
Family history has it that Mysore Maharaja was pleased with the services and has granted lands all over old Mysoru Samsthana and there are quite a few such Mysoru Mathas all over the present Karnataka.
Davanagere is a very vibrant city with people who take active part in everything under the sun and have contributed to commerce in a big way. It needs more attention from the Government to develop as a place fit for higher education and for institution of world class centers.

Priorities for Davangere
poowonder - 28 May, 2009 - 10:55
Dear friends,
Thanks for your interest.
The present priorities for Davangere as per my knowledge is -
1. Provision of drinking water - Even though there are sufficient water resources surrounding Davangere like Kunduvada pond, TV station reservoir, Tunga Bhadra (Harihar) and Bathi kere (Pond) why it has not been possible to ensure regular water supply? What steps could be taken to improve? The SICU (Socialist Unity Centre of India) members took out a protest to address this issue.(www.janatavani.com 26th May edition)
2. 2 contradictory happenings have been covered in Janatavani- the local daily - Non availability of fertiliser to the farmers. Losing their patience, the farmers fought against the pesticide shop owner and complained that the fertilisers are being sold in black. If they would have knew that fertiliser would arrive I think this fight would not have taken place.
On the same day, Mr. Gollar's statement as below has been covered in the same daily, which is self explanatory. What should be done to fill the information gap and protect the interest of farmers?
DAVANGERE: Over 1,800 tonnes of Mangala DAP fertilizer arrived here on Tuesday. Another 7,500 tonnes of fertilizer, of various other brands, are expected in the district by the end of this month.
R.G. Gollar, Joint Director of Agriculture, told The Hindu that the 7,500 tonnes of fertilizer was already on its way to the district, and claimed that with this, Davangere would have received its quota of 17,000 tonnes of fertilizer till May-end.
The fertilizer received by the agriculture marketing federations would be distributed to farmers through the Vyavasaya Seva Sahakara Sangha and also through private dealers. Mr. Gollar said the fertilizer would be used to grow crops such as sunflower, groundnut, soybean, cotton, ragi, hybrid maize, hybrid jowar, green-gram and other pulses. He further said that these crops would be cultivated in rain-fed areas of the district, particularly Harpanahalli, Jagalur and parts of Honnali. The crops would be cultivated on over 3.4 lakh acres and sowing would be undertaken at different points in time.
The official said that 2,500 tonnes of fertilizer from Indian Potash Ltd. would be delivered on Wednesday, while 2,500 tonnes of fertilizer would also come from Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) on May 29.
Over 2,500 tonnes of 20:20:0 fertilizer was also expected from IFFCO, he added.

I think more prioirities would come up as more and more Davangereans participate.

Protect ans secure the water bodies
nl.srinivas - 29 May, 2009 - 03:25
Hi,
I have a suggestion regarding the water bodies. We all know how many lakes have been destroyed in banglaore by land grabbers and illeagal occupation. Is it possible to take an initiative now so that the catchment area and the feeding canals of the water bodies are secured and enough awareness created among the masses to protect these water bodies before it is too late?
Kind Regards,
Srinivas.
Inputs for davangere Development
ssheragu - 29 May, 2009 - 13:55
ssheragu
I am also in for davangere developemnt by way of ideas & suggestions
(1) for water, the citizens can intrduce a legislation in the Davangere Municiplaity or Corporation so that no water bodies will be illegally ocuupied even for public service; in the case of a genuine necssity, the eradication of any lake should be permitted by 90% voting in the corporation body
(2) garbage disposal can be taken over by civic minded agencies who will ensure prompt & safe disposal of garbage in a hygenic way for the people who remove garbage ( I can provide furthet ideas on this)
(3) Davangere can go for concret roads all over the city
(4) Davanger can develop signal free corridors going in the N-S & E-W directions (through the heart of the city) for a distance of 25 to 35 Kms to start with
(5) DAVANGERE SHOULD STRICTLY IMPLEMENT THE POLICY OF SEGREGATING THE RESIDENTIAL AREAS FROM THE COMMERCIAL AREAS; DAVANGERE SHOULD CONSTRUCT A LOT MANY SHOPPING COMPLEXES WITH LARGE PARKING AREAS (EACH SHOPPING COMPLEX SHOULD HAVE A PARKING SPACE FOR A THOUSAND CARS) ANDALL SHOPS CAN BE SHIFTED TO THESE SHOPPING COMPLEXES; IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS FOR EVERY 10 STREETS ONE STREET SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED FOR LOCATING SHOPS OF BASIC NEEDS LIKE, MILK, VEGETABLES, PHARMACY, POST OFFICE, BANKS, etc.
many thanks

Green belt border
idontspam - 30 May, 2009 - 08:49
One of the most simple methods is to reserve a green belt around the lake area. It all boils down to enforcement. If there is no sanctitiy for a rule or guideline. How can we expect anything to be sustained? We are probably the most indisciplined citizens on this planet.

Create a vibrant civil society...to get what people want..
Vasanthkumar Mysoremath - 30 May, 2009 - 09:45
Dear all,
suggestions can be very helpful. But who will bell the cat?
- The first and foremost task of all those who care for the soceity is to assemble, discuss, agree to participate without egos or narcissisms, take them forward and present them at the appropriate levels of administrative authorties.
- time has come for people to tell the authorities that they will have to give back to the civil society the basic amenities, facilities and needs with proper infrastructure because, it is their tax money they will be spending, it is their street, it is their city and authorities are there to cook and serve them according to their needs and not according to the needs of the authorities and above all they are paid for from the peoples' money to do that job.
- If such a scenario is not effectively created and in place, then the authorities will cook and serve what they feel like, even if it does not contain enough khara, uppu, soppu etc.
-Therefore, it is an appeal to the knowledgeable people of Davanagere to create a vibrant civil society - not splinter groups - discuss the city's problems, suggest solutions, document them and present the same to the authorities concerned for project planning, plan of action, implementation process involving citizens for transparency and accountability etc.
- citizens should get involved at every stage so that qualities and quantities can be ensured.
