Preaching is easier than practising.

What will be happening at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen, and why we're hoping some of you will start or join a candlelight vigil at a strategic or iconic location in your community on Dec. 11th or 12th.

President Obama just announced that he will visit Copenhagen on December 9th--and there's no doubt that he'll deliver a rousing and eloquent speech. The following day, December 10th, he'll go on from Copenhagen to Norway to collect his Nobel prize.

We need to send a signal to say that speeches and prizes are good, but action is what's really required--enough action to head us back towards 350 parts per million. people like President Nasheed of the Maldives--struggle to get a document that represents "a survival pact, not a suicide pact." Obama will bring an emissions target to the table in Copenhagen, a bittersweet development in this political drama. Sweet because having any sort of commitment from the U.S. increases the chances of global collaboration on a climate deal, bitter because US emissions target represents a paltry 3% reductions below 1990 levels*--far from the ambitious cuts scientists say are necessary to get back to 350.

Let us build up a candle light vigil. Vigils are part of a huge global mobilization from where you are on the weekend of December 12th, mid-way through the negotiations.

/please dont misuse events feature/

The whole world is talking about the upcoming climate change sumit at Copenhagen and whether there will be consensus or arbitrary impositions from powerful nations of the west who are the largest emitters of green house gases.

It is a well known fact that America is a fuel gurgler and heavily depends upon fossil fuel and other natural resources that are becoming finite by the day.

This post is for starting a vigillant and vibrant pressure of solidariy among other nations of the world about their own efforts and to force the large economies of the world to reduce their emissions with reference to per capita emission comparable with the checks and balances of developing countries.

I find nothing wrong in bringing such an event to the notice of Prajas that be held the world over on 12th December - midway between the climate sumit from 7th 15th Dec.09.

But the words in your post "Wonder why this has not been deleted yet" smacks of something akin to 'instigation' and I consider it un-praja like and misuse of position.

For your kind information, climate change, global warming resulted in unprecedented deluge in North Karnataka and has rendered thousands of people homeless with their rehabilitation is, I am sure you will agree, IS A LOCAL PROBLEM relative to the subject.

Pray elucidate.

Keep this site for local stuff only, at the least the "events" (this post is an event with location marked "No Location". I know you are a vaachaspati, and can defend every word you write. World hunger, poverty, warming, peace - all issues can be deemed local.

But its a humble request to you so that this site stays local.

Not saying all this does not need attention, but please - present local angles because thats what we look forward to when we come to this site. And don't misuse the features. Events are real on ground local events with fixed venue date and time.

In short, blog about it all, and on this site only if there are clear local angles or connects.
