Infrastructure Projects - Victim of Political Battle

Vasanth - 25-NOV-2008

During Delhi Elections, BJP has announced that it is going to scrap the BRT project that Congress started. How ethical and unscientific is this to scrap an infrastructure project just for political rivalry.

Misuse of public money?

There is a proposal to build bungalows for the ministers (here is another article). The bungalow size seems high and extravagant (don't know how the size is arrived at).

Tampered auto rickshaw meters

sound horn NOT ok - 27-OCT-2008

Living in Madras for many years i was used to the bargaining, quarreling with drivers over the fare, since the concept of meters dont exist there. One just fixes a rate to travel from one place to another. And it used to be a very pleasant experience when i moved to Bangalore 10 years ago. Drivers would agree to travel to any place (atleast 90%), have perfect meters, and even give back change.

Bangalore Apartments - How safe are they?

Vasanth - 26-OCT-2008

Bangalore is becoming like apartment city. So many apartments and many apartments have overtaken the Utility Building in terms of number of floors. How safe are they ? How well are they constructed ?

Open Threat

Quote from article about kannada display boards by Nov 1

"On Oct. 31 night, around 10,000 KRV workers will go round the city checking display boards of shops and if they find English- only boards, they will either bring them down or blacken them."

Save these trees - road widening?

Rithesh - 20-OCT-2008

BBMP/BWSSB are at it again. I am surprised at the ease with which they go about cutting the trees.

This time it is the stretch of road between BDA junction and Cavery Theater junction (New Airport Road). Some one really very creative is at work here - they are finding new innovative ways to cut down trees and this time BWSSB has chipped in to help them.

In this particular case - BWSSB dug deep trenches just next to the trees (they are laying a pipe line). With in days most of the trees tilted dangerously towards the trench. A couple of days latter all these trees were cut down - may be citing treat to life and property. Surprise surprise, a few days latter, the foot paths are decreased and work is on to increase the width of the road - all this natak for a few extra feet of road (for a road which is already wide enough). Most of these tress were atleast 50-60 years old.

BDA Junction

Are we hopeless? A random thought....

We visited Wonderla this weekend. I should say a pretty well planned and well maintained place. Few incidences here to make a point.

So, will BMTC do one of this?

silkboard - 12-OCT-2008

I was waiting for one of these two to happen. What if:

  1. BMTC bids to operate buses in liberalized UP transport sector?
  2. BMRC (Bangalore Metro) orders its own fleet of buses to make sure it gets good numbers to reliably reach all their stations?
