Bus Priority - calling for help

silkboard - 17-OCT-2010

Bus Priority System may or may not be BRTS, but if you agree that the Bus needs some speeding up, and want BRTS or good enough half-measures for Bangalore, we need you. Bus Priority System (BPS) may seem like castles in thin air right now, but it will remain that way a bit longer if you decide to keep away. To your question - what help does the project need? Here:

G1/Old Airport Road - corridor detail, files

See leading note (below) from earlier discussion, and also the attached files on corridor detailing, and signal cycle times.

Exclusive bus lanes might not be necessary on old Airport rd because :

"Bus Priority System" - pilot G1/333

silkboard - 12-OCT-2010

A serious switch to public transport (PT) can be triggered if PT can move at closer or better effective speed compared to cars/mobikes. Buses are prime mode of PT in Bengaluru, and would be so for near future.

Are you okay giving priority to buses on Bengaluru roads?

silkboard - 12-OCT-2010

* Absolutely yes, make long dedicated bus lanes * Yes, but only where road or junction is wide enough * In theory yes, but don't know how you will do it * No, do not slow down my cars and mobikes.

Possible priority bus corridors

Naveen - 5-OCT-2010

Continuing from previous discussion, possible routes...

1) St.Patricks, Brigade Rd to ITPL (on Old Airport rd) ==> focus for our project here.

2) RM Guttahalli to Yelahanka (along Bellary Rd)

Chennai's elevated BRT system

silkboard - 4-OCT-2010

While Bangalore planners are still toying with BRT concept, Chennai seems to have an elevated corridor identified for BRT (Bus Rapid Transport System). Wonder if we have some Chennai geeks here who can enlighten how the corridor was identified, and history of the BRT idea in Chennai in general.

Lobby for BRT in Bangalore - focus Big10, Circle routes?

silkboard - 1-OCT-2010

First things first. If you don't like BRT, think it absolutely can't be done, please keep out, and discuss on other posts. This thread is for those who think that BRT in some sort or form (dedicated corridors, only at some places, or priority signals, or bus only magic boxes, or whatever) is needed for Bangalore, and can possibly be done.

BMLTA wants feedback on BRTS

sanjayv - 20-JAN-2010

In an article on Citizen Matters, titled "Bus Rapid Transport for Bangalore, today or tomorrow", Mr. Mohammad Mohsin, commissioner of the BMLTA has invited citizen feedback on BRTS in Bangalore.  I sent him a private message via the CM website to come post his query on Praja for thoughtful (and an earful) of responses.

Bus Priority System or partial-BRT for Bengaluru?

silkboard - 19-DEC-2009

Why don't we take the bus? Ask around, or read past polls and discussions here for some common answers. But this one thing is amongst the top reasons - the bus doesn't go any faster than my bike/car, it in fact takes longer. Those of us who actually use the Vajra buses for commuting do so mostly for speed first, comfort later.
