Namma Metro - Last Mile Connectivity Ravi_D - 4-NOV-2008
Prajegale, We seem to be excited about last mile connectivity to Namma Metro. If we all agree on a few (let us say two or three) options, this might be a chance to influence policy. Can we consolidate our ideas in one post? Here is the plan: |
Example of BMTC Local Shuttles for Bannerghatta Road bangalorean - 28-JUN-2008
Hello All, Here i am once again, i had promised long back to explore more on problems with BMTC in bannerghatta road. So here are some of the major problems. BMTC busses currently ply only from the main bannerghatta road and it does not penetrate the interiors of bannerghatta road. Interiors on either side of bannerghatta road is pathetic with no proper asphalt. It seems to me that no one has taken interest in improving the conditions these roads. Most of the roads have been occupied by petty shops making the interior existing roads small. |
Local shuttles and BMTC - Example Whitefield silkboard - 26-JUN-2008
Let me try a detailed example of how BMTC can extend the reach of its services, without adding tons of buses to its fleet. It involves investing in identified trunk routes, and then in planning local shuttles. Lets dig a bit deep into Whitefield. [flickr-photo:id=2612712866,size=m][flickr-photo:id=2612678852,size=m] Say we identify the trunk routes between Whitefield and rest of Bangalore as Southbound (towards Koramangala E-City, Westbound (towards CBD via Airport road), and Northbound (towards Banaswadi, Hennur). Call these trunk routes, and put a bus every 10-15 minutes on each. Here are the three routes (indicative, not exact):

blrsri - 2-MAY-2008
There has been numerous opinions expressed on transit systems and also the last mile connectivity(from home to station) has come to question here time and again. What are our options: 1. Skateboards - there will surely be lot of leg injuries 2. Free small busses to doorsteps - Budapest does it...but not practical for Blr 3. Bicycles - Arguably the best way to do the trip, again Budapest gives free parking for bicycles 4. Walking - the best..but limited to 1-2 kms |
Metro Rail too much to handle - Can we leapfrog... cvikash - 5-SEP-2007Where as the need of a high capacity transit system for our cities is beyond any doubt,at a cost of Rs. 16000 crores for about 33 kms., as it stands on this day and further escalation anticipated, Bangalore Metro looks pretty expensive. Can Bangalore leapfrog into a next generation public transport system ? The answer today is a resounding "YES". |
Bangalore Auto Transit Authority tsubba - 22-AUG-2007
Autos in Bangalore are at a minimum Rs 44crore/annum business*, employ atleast 30,000 people directly**, and have a transportation model that most public transit systems will kill for. Yet autos and their drivers are known for all the wrong reasons. I hypothesize, because they have got the organization all wrong. Also Read: Reva and Autorickshaw |
