Commuter Rail - Will it ever materialize ?

Most of us are aware that the CTTP-2007 report had recommended a Commuter /Sub-urban rail system for the city, totalling 204.0km (this includes city & suburban services upto Tumkur, Hosur & Ramanagaram). A few sub-urban trains are in operation & are being run by Southwestern railways (SWR), but the system is not of much help to urban commuters.

A peep into MRTS at Chennai

These are recent pictures of the MRTS (Commuter /Suburban Rail) at Chennai. New elevated tracks have been added, but these pictures are from an old line on the surface, between Beach & Tambaram.

Modernised Hubli Railway Station & Local Train

DRM of Hubli Division of SWR Mr Adesh Sharma informed that new Building of Hubli station will be ready by this year end. It will have 6 platforms with sub way connecting all platforms with Escalators. Bus shelter will be made at the entrance of Sub Way. .Cost of this upgradation is Rs 12 Crore.

Local Train For Twin City Hubli-Dharwad

1. High Court Bench at Dharwad
2. S W R Headquarter
3. Karnataka University at Dharwad
4. K I M S Hubli
5. Agricultural University at Dharwad
7. BVB Engineering College, Hubli
8. SDM Medical / Dental / Engineering college at Dharwad

Transforming Urban Transportation

Sharing a video from India Economic Summit. Very interesting to note Om Prakash Agarwals introductory comments where he says - We are very good at putting standalone facilities but never have an integrated plan and connection with other related systems. Bangalore has been reliant on a one dimensional Bus system. This cannot scale.

CRS / Local train for Bangalore Vs State Govt & SWR attitude

This with reference to our Shri K.H. Muniyappa ( Minister of State for Railways  )  blaming State Govt for not starting  Local Trains within Bangalore city.  How is it that he can not speak to CM of Karnataka when CM himself is pursuing so many projects for Rail on cost sharing basis. Our Shri K.H.
