Refer the news in papers today - "BBMP has warned residential and commercial complexes that don't allow visitor parking inside their premises. As per the byelaw, they must reserve 10% of the parking space for visitors".

Now, see this development along with an interesting news reported this week (source biz-standard): "MP Govt has created Urban Transport Authority which will make local bodies and traffic police work together ... fine collected ... will be used to raise funds for better traffic management, more parking space ... so far, the police used to deposit fines in state treasury".

Dedicated bus lanes - a presentation for BBMP

I made a presentation yesterday to Mr.Subramanya (BBMP Commisioner) at his office about the single bus lane idea. He was quite interested and said he would discuss with his committee and revert. He also agreed very well that the solution was not to build or widen more roads or flyovers. He also mentioned some problems that are being faced with the underpasses construction on Bellary road - the actual costs were much higher than anticipated because numerous problems had cropped up - conduits for sewerage, water, telephone, electricity, etc that were marked incorrectly on admittedly very old drawings that now need to be re-aligned !

JP Nagar Underpass work starts - a number of roads blocked in JP Nagar

Work on the JP Nagar underpass has started at the junction of 24th Main and ORR. They have blocked off a number of roads. Traffic diversions had been announced in the DH dated Apr-29. I found this out only because I went out driving yesterday and found a number of roads blocked and traffic diversions.

First it was Cauvery Jn : With the narrow underpass, buses or slightly larger vehicles "are" passing through it, but the drivers have to slow down to make sure they don't damage the vehicles. There by slowing all the traffic behind. It was after this, even the BBMP seems to agree that it could have been wider.
