How good is your Road Safety Knowledge - Test your self against 170 questions asj - 25-AUG-2008
For some time now I have been working towards making available an Interactive road safety quiz database for Indian road users.
Here is the entire quiz database of 170 questions available as two interactive quiz e-book's to test your knowledge of road safety related issues. This is a free downloadable resource for all who are preparing to sit the theory driving test as a part of licensing procedure. The latter is rare as most states in India still have not implemented a mandatory theory test for learner drivers. Hope is that Road Traffic Authorities in India use the above as a starting point for implementing a mandatory theory test for all new learner drivers. This resource is also likely to be a perfect way of refreshing the knowledge base of those who have been driving for several years.

Bangalore Traffic Woes, avoid ad hoc solutions please! psaram42 - 25-AUG-2008
Bangalore, keeping in pace with other cities in the world, has grown exponentially over the past half a century. The Key question while planning traffic solutions for such a growing city obviously would be “how to account for possible future growth?” Bangalore has a very good example in the Kempe Gouda Towers. Kempe Gouda had in his wisdom estimated the boundaries of Bangalore and built the Towers known after him. |

http://www.deccanherald.com/Content/Aug192008/city2008081985404.asp From recent Praja discussions and meetings with Mr Sood, it is clear that Police have only so much say - so many areas are beyond their jurisdiction. Why would we have police officers visit Singapore? To get trained.... On what? > We don't have our roads planned right - but it is for BBMP to worry about > foot paths - BBMP > public transport - BMTC |

Parking for profit, and how we can help silkboard - 11-AUG-2008
Location, Whitefield. First photo may tell you nothing, whats wrong with parking on the edge of the road anyway. Second one tells you why I clicked it. Blatant, isn't it? [flickr-photo:id=2752584536,size=m][flickr-photo:id=2751751441,size=m] We see examples like this everyday. Some of us fools waste time taking pictures. And the rarest of rare, nut cases, take the trouble of sending these to Traffic Police to feel like doing 'their bit'. |

Namma Raste - road use efficiency silkboard - 5-AUG-2008
Read in an email this morning that on 19th July 2008, a workshop on “Reclaiming Bangalore’s roads: Namma Raste” was jointly organized by Environment Support Group (ESG), CIVIC Bangalore and Alternative Law Forum at Vidyadeep, Ulsoor Road, Bangalore. The context for this meeting was the PIL against BBMP over widening of 91 roads. Apparently, the claim is that the widening projects will increase average vehicle speeds from 8-10 km/hr to 40 km/hr (ref: material from ESG/HU - these should soon be up on ESG website, so I will save myself copy paste jobs here). |
