Traffic Congestion – Possible case for a PIL Naveen - 20-OCT-2008
As outlined below, the formation of the prescribed bodies to tackle traffic congestion & to improve living conditions in the city was completed some time ago as recommended. Despite this, no concrete steps seem to be planned to stem the rot. The same old solutions continue to be doled out – the usual widening of roads after felling more trees & introducing more bus routes. These temporary solutions have been making things worse as widening roads invites more vehicles & the losers continue to be pedestrians & public transport users. |

I was supremely disappointed on reading this story in today's Deccan Chronicle. A quid pro quo with Bangalore for an elevated metro was to have good looking stations. Now we are going to get eyesores up in the sky, and are not even sure if there will be basic ameneties like lifts and escalators. |

Prajagale' - two quick metro updates from last week. 1) Yeddy has asked BMRC to study extending Metro from Byappanhalli to BIA (airport at Devenahalli). Suhas sir had mentioned this in his review of CTTP here. Source: Express Buzz and other papers also. |

They have dumbed down the metro stations originally to make it look straight out of a village. Maybe BMRC is also taking us for a ride. (see the two images)

We have seen many projects which are very ill conceived and never catering to the actual needs. These more to satisfy interests of few people! |
