Road To BIAL

Flogging a dead and decomposing horse here. Went for a drive to Yelahanka yesterday on some work. For me the real issue is not the lack of an expressway to the Airport. The 6 laned NH-7 IMHO is adequate to take today's traffic and probably for another 3 years. It is the roads leading to the exit of the city in the north that need attention.

Airport City
As a part of the overall master plan, BIAL has earmarked approximately two hundred and fifteen (215) acres of land within the project site for the first phase of commercial real estate development. BIAL’s vision is to develop this prime property called ‘Airport City’ as a destination in itself and create a premier business, retail and entertainment hub. This area will be a well balanced mix of office parks, retail and entertainment and hospitality.

New! Oct 2007 BIAL Airport City, Plans & Renders!!

The opening of the new Bangalore International Airport draws closer with just 6 more months to go. Progress on the project is now approximately 85%. In addition to the runway being complete, the taxiway has also been completed. At the terminal building, all the civil works are now done and finishing works are in progress.

It’s official. The airport expressway planned by the BMRDA to provide connectivity to Devanahalli International Airport will not be ready till 2009.

For whatever it is worth, recently when a flight presented an opportunity, I tried some photos of the upcoming Bangalore Airport (BIAL). The results? Nothing too good, but here they are. BIAL Airport connectivity - a new four-lane expressway?

Deccan Herald ran long writeups on Airport connectivity last week, and their reporters did some realistic time checks as well. We know most of those things: extending Metro from Byappanahalli, the now famous six-lane BIAL expressway, check-in counters at railway station itself. But there were some plans and ideas I had not heard in greater details earlier.

Despite major mid term course revisions, BIAL will open for commercial flights on March 30, 2008. Three days before schedule. Now only 15% of the work is pending.
