Waiting for the new Reva?

silkboard - 15-MAR-2009

The advertisements of electric bikes and scooters were everywhere when petrol prices were up in the sky. I wonder how are the sales now. Reva too was running ads back then, but no big news about them recently either. Talking of Reva, after reading around a bit (because I was considering buying it), speaking to a few folks who have also been interested, and two owners, here is what I learned:

Sustainable water supply for Bangalore

s_yajaman - 11-MAR-2009

Bangalore has always faced chronic water shortages.  Back in 1981 when the population was 2.9 million.  In 1991 when the population was 4.5 million.  And in 2008 when the population is some 7 million.   I don't think there ever has been a time when we have had daily water.   The past few years have seen a construction boom that has added to the strain on the w

The precious little "No violation slip"

christopher - 11-MAR-2009

Yesterday a very interesting thing happened. While driving on the road, before the never ending construction of Kadugodi railway overbridge, I was ushered by a group of traffic police standing on the roadside to stop. This was right infront of the Whitefield traffic police station.

Why so many buses on the Road?

chetana kolli - 10-MAR-2009

"BMTC the ever progressing Gov org" Has anyone ever wondered why Bangalore city has so many buses plying on the roads?? Does anyone feel that the BMTC authorities actually conduct an analysis before releasing buses to ply on the city roads.

Ground water scarcity

chetana kolli - 10-MAR-2009

According to officials from Department of Mines and Geology, the groundwater situation is in a critical condition in Bangalore. The situation has worsened in the last three years. The average annual rainfall in the district is only 600 mm to 700 mm per year. Because of the drought in 2001, 2002 and 2003, groundwater recharge has been very low!! ******This is alarming*******.

I wonder why our government or our educated bangaloreans want to do nothing about it. Yes the government probably has a rule that Rain water harvesting(RWH) facility is compulsory in apartments and so on.... but who is monitoring it????  The apartment I live in does not implement RWH... Its a shame that the governing body is unable to enforce this..

Metro - coverage comparision with some cities

idontspam - 5-MAR-2009

Here is a simple comparison of the coverage various metros in the world provide and where we should be going. It is important to be developing a network that covers more areas and enables last mile connectivity and feeder services to be more effective.
