Combining Capitalism with Welfarism 09/27/08 07:24 - murali772
Modern capitalist states are all welfare states. Enormous bureaucracies have been created to tax the rich, regulate business, provide subsidies and special schemes to the needy, thwart environmental harm and health hazards, and so on. The list is long and keeps growing. person murali772's post | forum 4 Comments | Read More

BMTC bus, road kerb and stands 09/26/08 01:22 - silkboard
It helps no one except the driver of the bus when he decides not to cut left and go closer to the kerb at bus stands. Folks have to walk up, or wait on the roads, and not at the shelter (if one exists in the first place). And the bus blocks traffic on the road. person silkboard's post | forum 20 Comments | Read More

I was supremely disappointed on reading this story in today's Deccan Chronicle. A quid pro quo with Bangalore for an elevated metro was to have good looking stations. Now we are going to get eyesores up in the sky, and are not even sure if there will be basic ameneties like lifts and escalators. person Devesh's post | forum 25 Comments | Read More

How well the email ids of BBMP work! 09/24/08 10:45 - balu036
Bangalore is the silicon city of India atleast in terms of the revenue it generates from software exports. In such a city, the authority responsible for maintaining the city infrastructure has to have functional email ids and its officers should regularly access to find out if there are any complaints from the citizens. This is important because in today's busy world, very few can give a complaint physically. person balu036's post | forum 2 Comments | Read More

10-yr old Sri Shirdi Sai Baba temple near Magadi Road is facing a threat of demolition by the BBMP. While the civic agency is backing the decision, saying the temple violates provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, temple authorities allege that their neighbour - wife of a high court judge - influenced the move. person murali772's post | forum 13 Comments | Read More
