Signs for Proposed Bus Stops that have sprung around the city 09/02/08 16:22 - ashwin
Signboards on poles have sprung up all over the city announcing "Proposed Bus Shelter by TimesOOH". In most places, these are next to existing bus shelters. There seems to be a connection with the Airport bus service as these signs are often next to the sing announcing the frequency of the BIAS routes, like in the photo (the existing bus shelter was behind me as I took the photo). person ashwin's post | forum 3 Comments | Read More

Chronology of a Project - Anjaneya Temple Flyover 09/02/08 15:57 - Ravi_D
Driving on Mysore Road daily can be a nightmare. Choke points are many - in fact, I cannot think of any better candidate for SB's 'model road demonstration' project! One of the many such chronic choke points, Junction in front of Gali Anjaneya Temple, was (and still is) to get a flyover. Here is how the project went: From this entry: (June 05 2007) person Ravi_D's post | forum 12 Comments | Read More

Cab Drivers can be called as 'insects' of Bangalore traffic. The kind of people who drive the Indicas and Sumos are usually 'bad mannered' and 'ready to fight' type of people. Autos are one type, but, since they are not as powerful as the cabs, they are 'bit better' than these cabs (comparison among the worst). These cab drivers behave as if they are pilots of Jet planes and saving the country!! person Vasanth's post | Read More |
Connecting the Bicycle dots - 'Build it and they will come' 09/02/08 10:21 - Bengloorappa
Found an interesting article in Washington Post foreign service section about how some countries have adapted to Bicycles and how some others are on the path. It also holds out that research suggests that India and China cannot afford to not adopt the model. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/... Simple Solution to Ganesh Mandals and digging of the roads 09/01/08 18:29 - asj
We all agonise each year over roads being dug up by Ganesh Mandals (Lokmanya Tilak must be restless seeing what his efforts to pull the community have come to).
In the past, I have suggested that barrels are used to support bamboo pole's. One can either fill the barrels with sand and rubble to support the pole or even produce pre-fabricated barrels filled with concrete with a central gap to secure the pole. I have seen such pre-fabricated barrels in use in UK where they are used to erect temporary traffic lights during road works. person asj's post | forum 2 Comments | Read More

Mr Chavan lost his son to bad road hump design. He used RTI to get information. Now he is planning to do PIL "seeking a High Court directive to the authorities to either remove the unscientific humps or relay them as per Indian Road Congress standards". You may not have seen some of these pictures... but this is what happens after the festival is over. This entry (see last paragraph) seems to even imply a ban by Mumbai police. person Ravi_D's post | Read More |
